В итоге я обнаружил, что Putty не позволяет мне видеть экран входа в систему. Я установил SecureCRT, и сразу же появилось приглашение для входа в систему. Странно, поскольку я использую одни и те же настройки в обеих программах (9600 бод, 8 бит данных, без контроля четности, 1 стоповый бит).
